S.D.MYER'S LAB ONLINE CASE STUDY

Client Background
S. D. Myers Inc. Analytical Services provides transformer oil testing, laboratory analysis of electrical insulating liquids, and electronic data management services. S.D. Myers Inc. reviews, interprets, and analyzes test data from their laboratory and from other sources to provide their customers with clear and unambiguous recommendations concerning their electrical equipment maintenance programs.

Business Challenge
S. D. Myers was distributing the test results and recommendations via hard copy reports and their proprietary VOLTT™ software to thousands of customers annually each supporting between 20 and 200 transformers. In order to enhance its service, S.D. Myers, Inc. wanted to build a new web-based application called Lab On-Line™ which would provide customers with self-service access to test results and recommendations. In addition customers would have the ability to review a significant amount of historical test information to better understand their maintenance needs and better manage their electrical asset. Additional features include the ability to upload equipment photos and add descriptive comments. Current and historical reports can be printed and archived in PDF format.

Solution

Working with S.D. Myers, Inc. the Rainmaker Group finished a technical design to build out Lab-Online using Microsoft SQL Server 2000, and IIS 5.0. The final application included integration with S.D. Myers, Inc.’s Navision ERP system for customer account information. In addition to enhanced customer self-service capabilities, the Rainmaker Group created sophisticated administration features so S.D. Myers, Inc. can fully administer the web site without having to contact the Rainmaker Group. Administration features include content management, formatting and editing photographs, user maintenance, security, and file maintenance.

“It has been a pure pleasure to work with a group who not only understands the technology, but also understands and offers expert insight on how that technology can be used to enhance business, “ said Chris Young Director of S.D. Myers. Mr. Young went on to say, “. The Rainmaker Group has the breadth and depth of knowledge and talent we were looking for to implement this project and also the ability to take us far into the future. They go above and beyond the call of duty to make certain their customer is happy with their work product.”
